Physical (mineral sunscreen) vs. Chemical Sunscreen
The sun is shinning brighter these days ☀️ so, lets start off the week with talking about Sunscreen. Did you know that there are two different types of sunscreen that you can choose from? Yes! It’s true! Here are the pros and cons of the two different types of sunscreens.
Physical Sunscreens vs. Chemical Sunscreen 🧴
🌱 Physical sunscreens are known to be “reflectors.” Their active ingredients include zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which physically block UVA & UVB rays. These minerals form a protective barrier on the skin and reflect harmful UV rays before they make contact with the skin’s surface
❕Pro: safe for sensitive skin, great for acne prone skin, potentially more effective
❗️ Cons: undesirable texture (thick texture), some formulas can leave a white cast that might be undesirable especially for darker skin tones.
🌱 Chemical sunscreens are often known as “absorbers.” Their active ingredients are organic (carbon-based) compounds that absorb UV rays. These compounds convert UV rays into heat, then release that heat into the skin.
❕Pro: clear - does not leave a white cast, spreadable and enjoyable to wear, lightweight that's gel-like and easy to blend
❗️Cons: might not be as effective (need to apply more often), may have adverse environmental affects, recalls have been associated with chemical formulas.
Regardless of the sunscreen you chose, the most important thing is to wear sunscreen everyday. 🤍
